September has a way of straddling two worlds—the warmth of summer still clings to the air, while autumn quietly begins to take hold. For many families, it marks a return to structure: school schedules, sports practices, and packed calendars. Yet it also offers a gentle reminder to pause, breathe, and hold onto the ease of summer just a little longer.

At Axis Vehicles, we believe adventure isn’t measured by how much you can cram in, but by how much room you leave for connection, discovery, and stories worth retelling.

The Trip

That spirit is captured beautifully in the work of Ryan Flood, who recently photographed his family’s late-summer road trip from Hood River into Canada. With two teenagers about to dive back into school life, the Floods made it a priority to spend two uninterrupted weeks together—building memories that will carry them through the busier season ahead.

The Route

Their route stretched more than 2,000 miles, tracing a path from the windswept beaches of Tofino to the dramatic peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Along the way, the family embraced a rhythm of constant movement: no two nights in the same place, each day offering something new to see, share, and experience.

As Ryan describes it:
“We kept the wheels rolling—never sleeping in the same place twice.”

The Purpose

For the Floods, the trip wasn’t just about covering ground—it was about keeping their family close, proving that the road itself can be the destination. Their journey is a reminder to all of us that even as life speeds up this season, adventure is waiting when we choose to make space for it.
