How Long Does a Van Build Take?

(Axis Vehicles Timeline Explained)

One of the biggest questions future van owners have is: “How long does the build take?” Whether you’re planning for an upcoming road trip, ski season, or cross-country adventure, knowing the true timeline helps you budget, prepare, and get excited.

At Axis Vehicles, our process is intentionally streamlined, transparent, and efficient. While many builders across the industry take 6–12 months (or more), our process—paired with two standardized, proven layouts—allows us to deliver high-quality adventure vans in a fraction of the time.

Here’s exactly what to expect.

Axis Vehicles Build Timeline

Our full timeline from initial call to final delivery is:

Approximately 5 weeks

This includes:

  • 1-week design & planning phase

  • 4-week build phase

Unlike custom builders who may have to reinvent the wheel for every project, Axis uses two refined, field-tested layouts—the Revolver and the Sportwagon—which accelerates the build without sacrificing quality or safety.

1. Inquiry & Discovery Call

We start with an introductory call to understand:

  • Your travel style

  • Number of passengers

  • Budget

  • Hobbies & gear

  • Must-have features

  • Pain points you’d like solved

This ensures we pair you with the right layout and accessories.

2. Chassis Selection

We build on the Ford Transit AWD 148” wheelbase (long body) because it:

  • Fits in standard parking spots

  • Slides into "tent" campsites under 20'

  • Handles winter travel well

  • Is easy and affordable to service anywhere

We also build on E-Series vans when customers want a 4x4 conversion and interior build.

  • Seating configuration (both layout seat and sleep 5)

This is also when we coordinate any accessories or future add-ons.

6. Four-Week Build Phase

This is where the magic happens.

We complete:

  • Flooring, ceiling and wall install

  • Electrical system wiring

Plan Ahead: When to Start Your Build

If you want your van ready for a specific season:

  • Spring trip? Start planning in January.

  • Summer adventures? Build in spring.

  • Fall road trips? Start in late summer.

  • Ski season? Plan for a fall build.

Planning around a season or trip is always a good idea but having an Axis van for anytime of the year is never a bad idea.
